My first real success was for a new product, for movers in the
transport
industry. I finally convinced the owner to do it my way, instead of a
dry
boring catalogue that looked more like a "Order Form" from
1902, I
crafted a salesletter (they only let me have one A4 page), compiled a
database of likely prospects. Out it went into a new and cold market...
Guess
what?
Most had never heard of this company before and despite that a few
orders trickled in. "Oh
shit" the owner was sweating it out. Much to
his distaste, out went my first follow-up. Well that got the phones
ringing hot over my little controversy. Out went the next letter,
explaining everything and providing facts, details and proof. The phone
started ringing again, this time the orders poured in.
With a quick phone call to the rest, discovered the rest of the list
had
either gone out of Business or had transfered into other area's of the
transport industry.
Which
brings
me to
this question...
I am assuming because you are here you have a product or service to
want to market, or you just want to take your Business to the next
level and you either found the site by (shear dumb) luck or you where
sucked into the funnel by one of our advertorials.
Let's
face it - there are thousands of brilliant products and
services
out there, but many never see the light of day because of poor
marketing or, more to the point, no marketing strategy at all.
Are You motivated - I mean really
motivated?
Here is why I ask such a stupid
question - I had a man (he will remain
faceless at this point)
that came to me for help - YES! we all need that from time to time...
He had a lawn Mowing Business and did odd jobs - He basically had
nothing, no assets, no cashflow and a Yellow Page Ad. He was desperate
and needed more Business. Having a "I feel sorry for you"
moments, after many phone calls found him close to 45k of work. So I
gave
him the first number on the list.
Talking to my friend who was first on the list, later on, she asked me
"I thought you had found someone to
do the job for me!" My first thought was "That bloodly lazy shit for
brains" I
answered "I did, so he has not rung you??"....I reminded him, just in
case I had screwed up and given him the wrong number, nope! ...and
implied I had a few others thinking he would be highly motivated by the
overhanging threat of being kicked out of his apartment ( I wonder why)
and having work and money coming in again...How could I be so so wrong?
You
get the picture...Well I already knew what I could do for
this
client and had crafted all the ads and guff, but on a hunch had never
showed him as I wanted HIM to get motivated and get some cashflow. I
knew I had a killer ad already written. You see no matter how good an
Ad is, if the ower is not motivated then all will be for nothing...
Out of spite and indifference, I gave, Yes! - gave that
material to a
friend who had started to Chew Grass For Cash (lawn mower business). He
took,
over two years, his pet cow into a million dolllar company simply
using and following what I had given him. His problem was not getting
clients and lawns to mow...
...in fact he had so many clients he couldn't
keep up...
Would

If you don't know what a customer is worth to you over their lifetime,
then you may be leaving thousands of dollars on the table for someone
else. It's important you know the numbers.

Say for example you get one sale average for every 100 prospects... for
a $97.00
product. And that customer buy's from you ten times over three years on
average. You spend $8.00 to acquire that customer...
You could by rights, spend a lot more acquiring a customer just by

My experience is that you, as a client, will be unhappy with any with
my services if you do not agree with the conditions set out below...
Here are my guidelines to determine whether my services fit your needs
and I am the right man for the job.
Before you
sign my
agreement and send a retainer, read the below carefully. If it
discourages you, don't hire me; we would not be happy with each other:
1.
I
do best with clients that are open to use new idea's that I or other
clients have found to work, willing to differentiate and are not afraid
to make a noise or offend someone in your market.
2.
You'll be happy with me if you like highly persuasive copy and aren't
afraid to use long copy "IF" the situation warrants.
3.
Clients who are interested primarily in name branding (since 1843), who
cares!...(this is not, USP Branding which I do)
and more traditional methods of marketing and are out just to follow
the pack(instead of what works well), then you are better served
elsewhere.
5.
On
the other hand, if you admit you know little or nothing about direct
response, you need to let me in the drivers seat and stay out of my
way. If you don't agree, don't hire me.
6.
Some clients, in particular those in large corporate settings, expect
their creative vendors and consultants to be available on a beck and
call basis, able to take a conference call or rewrite copy on a
moment's notice. I am not. I will help and work with you, but I am not
the baby sitter on dial 1-800.
7.
Clients who will like my service are those who will give me the time
needed to craft great copy. They are much more interested in "I want it
GOOD" rather than I want it fast. It doesn't happen overnight unless
you want my cheap slap happy service and you really don't care about
getting the most out of your campaign.
8.
Once you give me the assignment, you don't continually call me to ask?
Is it finished yet? Trust me, I will call you if I need anything. And
will contact you with draft copies etc...
9.
When you give me a Copywriting Assignment, I go away and work hard on
your copy. If you want me to do so, you will not interrupt me in this
task with frequent phone calls and e-mails about what I should be doing.
10.
I
work with clients by mail, phone, yahoo messenger and e-mail. I do not,
always meet face to face with clients. And I virtually never travel
unless I have to.
12.
Because I do not control lists, offers, price, product, external
events, the Economy, the President or the King and a variety of other
factors that can affect your marketing, I cannot and DO NOT guarantee
results.
13.
I
can, however, continue to work with you on developing and implementing
a Marketing System for you Business. This is fee based and may occur
royalties...
14.
I
do not offer project management, in the sense of coordinating all
aspects of a promotion (copy, editing, design, list, production,
mailing,
customer service, website content). I write the copy and craft websites
and graphics. And that's it. I can however if need be, I can find you
suitable
consultants and freelancers.
15.
If
you have trouble with people who are straight to the point, very
direct, blunt, and don't beat around the bush then I strongly suggest
you stay well away from me as I may offend you and hurt your feelings!
16.
Also, I don't want to talk with anyone who has to check with anyone
else as to whether or not they should hire me. If you have to check
with your lawyer, your accountant, your boss, your spouse, your mommy
or your
daddy or anyone else, just assume it wouldn't be a good idea and don't
waste my time.
17.
And, I'm not looking for anyone who has to scrape up the money to hire
me. It puts way too much pressure on me to know someone has bet their
entire life's savings on me producing a winner for them. And that, if
it's not a huge winner, they and their family will be reduced to eating
grass in the park.
